How To Spend Less Money On Fuel For Your Car

Auto Date Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

A large number of Americans are forced to drive cars as the country does not have a mass transport system. Whatever one likes to blame it on, avarice, speculation or just supply and demand, oil prices are rising. Tips on on how to save on oil would thus be welcome at the moment. Before you know it, you’ll have saved a good amount of money, with a little from here and a little from there.

Automobiles that use fuel in an efficient way, for instance sedans, or hybrids, if you can spend a bit more, are one plain way to bring down gasoline expenses. There are some simple tips to save money, though, like generally keeping your speed down and not picking up speed quickly, that will apply to all cars, and especially to older, thirstier ones. More gas is consumed the harder you press on the gas pedal, so whenever you can, take your foot off of the pedal, and let momentum keep your car moving. Many small things will keep your gas tank from running out of gas too rapidly.

See to it that you use the fuel grade that has been defined for your automobile. In virtually all instances, using premium gas will be a complete waste of money, unless you are driving a car that is benefitted by running on premium gas. You can save money on gas if you drive more slowly, and get rid of any extra weight from your car. Driving at a fast speed means more air must be transplaced and that drag climbs up, which all means a diminution in fuel efficiency. Besides being safer, driving more slowly can save you money.

One piece of extra weight you can take out so you can save fuel, unless you need it to transport something, is a roof rack. Fuel consumption is affected not just by the weight, but by the increased drag produced by roof racks as well. It may not save you a big amount, but there is no reason to lug around excess weight in your trunk without it being a necessity. Since gas prices are not likely to come down much, your only options seem to be are to find alternative sources, cutting down how much you use, or just live with the price increases without doing anything. Almost all people seem to be fine with doing everything the way they always have, pay the higher fuel prices, and possibly complain every now and then.

Lots of people are beginning to get more fuel-efficient automobiles, but that’s the extent of it. Others who can’t afford the other two choices, are the ones most likely to do whatever they can to economize gas. Maybe one of these days, with enough education, everyone will decide that conserving gas is a fantastic idea. If everyone would just slow down when driving, the roads would be safer, cleaner, and money would be saved.
